Here are our tips for the ultimate conference experience whether you’re new to CAAT, newly paying attention to CAAT, or almost set for retirement.

  1. This conference is 100 percent virtual. If you come to our offices, you’ll be quite disappointed. Why? This conference is virtual and best enjoyed from the comfort of your home, office or even a patio. But if you’re looking for a little company, why not invite a few friends over for an extended lunch break. Don’t forget to wear your Pensions for Everyone T-shirts. Don’t have one? We’ve got you covered! Join our Plan Ambassador program today and you’ll have your shirt in no time.
  2. No, that’s not a phish. Our conference emails will come from our third-party vendor, Webex. So don’t delete that email! It’s us at CAAT, reaching you through a fully-verified, trustworthy partner to provide you with An Experience of a Lifetime (hint: that’s the theme of our conference this year!)
  3. Your exclusive member session. We promise lots of learning, news you can use and maybe even some witty banter. Remember, your pension isn’t just this thing you have. Your pension actually works for you in so many ways, making your life simpler and your future retirement years more secure. We’re calling it: 5 ways your pension works for you (throughout your lifetime). As a bonus, we’ll also be digging into the Plan changes coming very soon (January 2025!)
  4. Jump from session to session. We’d never abandon you. You’ll start in the CAAT 2023 Performance Update. When it ends, it might seem like we’ve disappeared, but we haven’t! Just jump into your breakout session by clicking on your agenda and then again for the Fireside Chat with Derek. As a side note, we’ve got three different breakout sessions happening at once for different audiences. So if you feel like it, you can binge the other breakout sessions once we release all the content. It’s kind of like a streaming service. Pension content forever.
  5. Exciting announcement coming in hot. We have a new, innovative way to invest in your financial future. Stay tuned until the very end of the conference to learn more. You do not want to miss it.

Better pensions for a better Canada

Here are the facts. One in four working adults is nearing retirement and a defined benefit (DB) pension can help employees achieve their retirement savings goals.

We truly believe all Canadians deserve better retirement income security with a DB pension – just like what you have at CAAT.

According to the Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council (CPPLC) report, Pensions Canadians Want: Perceptions of Retirement (2016-2022), Canadians’ confidence in retiring well has dropped. Why? Because of financial stressors, like rising cost of living.

The majority of respondents said that they want a valuable workplace pension plan (like you have!) and that retirement income security is an important factor when making career decisions. Other findings showed:

  • Only 1 in 3 respondents are confident in their ability to retire at their desired age,
  • Only 1 in 3 respondents are confident that they will be able to maintain their standard of living in retirement, and
  • DB pensions are the preferred type of plan for those aged 35 and older.

When employers help employees reach their short and long-term financial wellness goals, it’s better for business, better for employees, and better for Canada.
