What are the sources of disability benefits?
Workers' compensation benefits
Every jurisdiction in Canada has a workers' compensation scheme that provides benefits such as a "loss of wages benefit" to support workers who have lost income due to a workplace injury or illness.
Long-term disability (LTD) benefits
LTD benefits provided by your group insurance plan are intended to provide you with income when you are unable to work due to illness or injury. You are usually eligible if you are employed and covered by an LTD insurance plan. The amount of the benefit and the extent of the coverage depend on the conditions offered by your insurer and the terms of your plan.
Other sources
Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to earn income from several sources. Veterans Affairs Canada, Employment Insurance, and the Canada Pension Plan provide various disability or sickness benefits to eligible individuals. These benefits do not affect your CAAT Plan pension. For more information, contact your human resources representative.
