Look back at 2025 with CAAT

CAAT’s 2025 results underscore a decade of solid performance and funding health. Over the past 10 years, the Plan delivered an annualized net return of 9.6%, supported by an 8.4% net return in 2025, reinforcing long-term stability for members and participating employers.

Our 2025 Annual Report highlights these strong investment results and a resilient, long-term approach. As of January 1, 2026, the Plan had $25.4B in assets, a $6.7B funding reserve, and was 124% funded, a strong indicator of benefit security and long-term sustainability.

Update on Governance Review

CAAT's independent governance review is now in its final stages. Throughout the process, the Board has worked collaboratively and constructively with key stakeholders, including the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA), to ensure a thorough and objective assessment. The Board is confident that a comprehensive action plan will further strengthen governance at CAAT, reinforce accountability, and ensure continued alignment with best practices in the interests of beneficiaries.

Coming soon: Annual statements

Warmer weather isn’t the only hallmark of the spring season – annual statements are on the way! We want to thank all employers for their timely year-end data submissions, as this helps streamline the statement production process. The CAAT team is working towards distributing statements in advance of the June 30 legislative deadline, with target dates as follows:

Employers working with Administration Partners:

All statements will be distributed by May 31.

Employers working directly with CAAT:

  • Retired members/surviving spouses: Statements will be sent out by April 30.
  • Active members and deferred members: 98% of statements will be sent out by May 31, with the remaining 2% sent out in June.
  • Extension of Membership (EOM) and any remaining statements: Statements will be sent out by June 30.

If your employees have access to My Pension, encourage them to activate their accounts as soon as possible to receive online statements.

Members who have not registered for My Pension or who have selected the paper communication option in My Pension will receive their statement by mail to the address on file with CAAT. Please encourage members to verify their mailing address and update it, if necessary, by calling CAAT or updating their contact information on My Pension:

Updates and reminders

Submit non-contributing member data by May 31

Read this if: you are an Ontario college employer

Any member who has not contributed to the Plan for a period of 12 months or more must be reported as a terminated member. Members on approved leave are exempted from this reporting, as they are not considered to be terminated.

If you have fewer than 25 non-contributing members, report them via Pension Administration Link (PAL). If you have more than 25 non-contributing members, report them via this spreadsheet (Employer Manual) and use the Message Centre or S-Doc to submit it to CAAT.

June 30 pension applications

Read this if: you are an Ontario college employer

With summer fast approaching, CAAT usually receives a large volume of retirement applications for June 30. If you have any members who are interested in retiring in June or July, we encourage you to submit a Pension Application through PAL as soon as possible. Once final earnings are reported in the Pension Application, CAAT will make any applicable calculation adjustments (if applicable) for the member’s final earnings and adjust the member’s pension accordingly.

Members who would like to make a pension purchase or transfer funds into CAAT from another pension plan should begin these processes as soon as possible. Completing these transactions at least two months before applying for retirement helps to ensure that their pension is paid on time.

E-learning hub for pension administration training

Read this if: you are an employer using payroll-based reporting (PBR – classic)

We’re making it easier for pension administration staff to learn CAAT reporting systems through our Employer e-Learning Hub!

The Hub is currently designed for employers using “classic” PBR – using Excel load files. We are developing new courses for employers who report payroll and member data using CAAT’s automated data exchange.

If you are interested in learning more about the Hub and how it can help new and seasoned staff members on their CAAT learning journey, please reach out to your Pension Analyst.
